Sapporo-based mixed-gender band mel has released its first new album in 18 months, a four-song EP.
The sound production on this EP, which includes four songs produced and recorded on the COVID-19 vortex, has been greatly improved from the previous EP, with mel's characteristic twin guitar riffs and arpeggios, like those of early DIIV and Beach Fossiles, still present, but with more effects. The processing and the sound image of each instrument have increased their presence dramatically.
The lyrics, co-written by the members of the band, are short and memorable in every song, capturing the momentary feelings of loss and sadness that peek out in the midst of everyday life.
Influenced by foreign dream pop, shoegaze, indie rock, etc., their sound, with its identity as a Japanese melody, will be well received by music fans in Japan and abroad.

It's just a really fun little record. There are some interesting little things going on, but it's mainly just four songs that are a sheer joy to listen to. badgerworld
